Does an AI scribe actually save time, or just effort?
Often effort first. Two psychologists said it saved them little time and a lot of head.
Often effort first, and sometimes only effort. Two psychologists said the same thing a week apart: the tool did not save them much time, but it took a real load off their heads. A group practice owner said the nightly note dread was gone. The minutes are arguable in every thread. The relief is not.
What did clinicians actually report?
A psychologist: it does not save me much time, but it does seem to save me some cognitive load. A colleague: I edit heavily, but I take fewer notes during the session and spend more time on case formulation. A physical therapist: if my brain is fried by the end of the day, it saves effort. A nurse practitioner: it helps me stay with the patient and not the laptop.
The group practice owner said it most plainly. The nightly note dread is gone.
Why would effort fall before time does?
Because the hard part of a note was never the typing. It was holding the session in your head until you could write it down, across six more sessions. A tool that captures the facts takes that weight off at the moment it is heaviest, even if you still spend twenty minutes editing later.
What does the saved effort go to?
The parts that are yours. The psychologist who edits heavily uses the room it frees for formulation. That is the right trade: hand over the recall, keep the thinking. It is the same split that makes the formulation stays yours.
What is the cost?
Two clinicians named it. One did not like the idea of losing their documentation skills. A physiotherapist argued that writing the note is how a clinician reflects on the consult, and that handing it off loses the reflection. Both are right about the risk. The answer is to hand over the recall and keep the reflection, not to hand over both.
How do I tell which one I am getting?
Count for a week. Minutes per note, and how you feel at seven o'clock. If the minutes barely move and the seven o'clock feeling does, you are getting effort back, and that is worth having. If neither moves, the tool is wrong for you.
The short version
An AI scribe may give you your head back before it gives you your minutes back. Hand over the recall and keep the thinking. For therapy practices and practices, Solanto will write the history and leave the formulation and the plan to you, in Cloud mode or in Private Mode, where the note never leaves your device.
The price is on the page, not behind a call. Early access is open: solanto.ai/pricing
Ask a colleague who uses one how they feel at seven in the evening. Not how long the note took. How they feel.
